The Roaming Diva (Panthea Loewen):
Soprano / Aerialist / Vocal Technique Coach
Associate of the Victoria Conservatory of Music (BC), Panthea has been performing for two decades. Her labor of love, Aerial Opera, is the unique synthesis of contemporary circus aerial arts with live singing. For the last decade she has entertained unsuspecting audiences as The Roaming Diva singing opera while stilt-walking at events across Canada. Her one woman shows Tall n’Tispy combine opera, musical theatre and pop songs with stilts, aerial fabric and a character who may have over-indulged somewhat. Her CBC Radio 1 & 2 debuts were as the feline reincarnation of Alice B. Toklas singing Renaldo Hahn. Panthea has been an artist in residence at the Banff Centre in the Opera, Music & Theatre departments respectively and as a singer songwriter in the Leighton Artist Colony. Twice she has been welcomed as an artist in residence by La Tohu Cité des Arts du Cirque in Montreal QC. In her
more traditional moments she has performed La Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro with the Victoria Symphony; 2nd Lady in The Magic Flute with VCM Opera Studio; and Gussie Lamore in Klondyke Dinner Theatre in the Yukon Territory over 500 times (that’s a lot of mosquitoes).
When not singing herself she is teaching singers, actors and presenters how to free their voices. She ran Studio Fuego Manso, in Montreal, QC a centre for vocal freedom for eight years; and offered Inroads to Vocal Source – Team Teaching Workshops combining Alexander and vocal techniques.
