What do you want to be when you grow up?
Ever dream of being a news reporter? A photographer? An announcer? An event promoter? Now is your chance to learn the ropes!
For the fourth year, Arts Whistler is inviting kids to get involved in the production of the Whistler Children’s Festival through the Whistler Children’s Festival Mentor Program. By pairing young apprentices with local mentors we give kids the opportunity to take their creative passions into the adult realm – to see what it is like to work in a creative profession.
Anyone between 7 and 15 who is interested can submit an application online, explaining why they would be great for the available roles. Successful applicants will be introduced to their mentor, spend some time being shown the tools of the trade and then get to display their talents at the Whistler Children’s Festival.
Stay tuned for 2018 position descriptions.
In 2017 there were four positions to apply for:
Reporter for the Whistler Question
Do you like to tell stories and meet interesting people? As a Junior Reporter for the Whistler Question you will pair up with Editor Alyssa Noel and learn how to write a story for the newspaper! During the festival you’ll interview other kids, performers, and get the inside scoop on all the fun festival activities!
Radio Host with Mountain FM
Do you love music, people, and talking into a microphone? You’re the perfect match to co-host with MJ from Mountain FM live on location at the Whistler Children’s Festival Friday Pyjama Party! Before the festival, MJ will give you a tour of the Mountain FM studios where you’ll learn all about how your favourite songs get on the air. Then on July 7, you and MJ will host your own show from the festival grounds!
Do you have a keen eye for the perfect shot? The Junior Event Photographer will learn the ropes from the pros and take photos of all the Festival Fun! Learn about how to frame a shot, capture the moment, and how to use your camera! (NOTE: A camera is required for this role. A cell phone camera, point and shoot, or a full DSLR – your mentor will teach you how to use it and take a great photo!)
Arts Whistler Street Team
Are you the life of the party? The Arts Whistler Street Team is going to kick off the Friday Pyjama Party with a fun art project, dancing, and tons of bubbles! First, get an exclusive backstage tour of the Whistler Children’s Festival to learn how the festival comes together. Then we’ll hit the stroll for a collaborative art project and help invite people to join the Pyjama Party!
