In ancient times animals were humans. They considered themselves brothers and sisters. Some people were known to transform themselves into animals to help one another; stories and legends about the relationships between animals and people are intertwined with our cultures. Students will be introduced to four animals in the traditional territory of the Squamish and Lil’wat Nations – Eagle, Bear, Hummingbird, and Wolf.
Where the Skw̲xw̲ú7mesh and Líl̓wat7úl cultures meet, grow and are shared – the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre is an incredibly inspiring facility where you can learn about First Nations art and culture, including animal symbolism, and local First Nations stories and legend. Guests can wander along the Salish Stroll and experience the interpretive forest trail.
