Discover Your Inner DJ, is an opportunity to explore what it takes to DJ for an adoring crowd! Throughout this workshop we will discuss music selection, your favourite songs, and the way that music can inspire us to feel. We will spark creativity while choosing our own unique DJ names and have some exploration time, learning the basics of mixing on real DJ equipment.
Shanique Kelly, also known as Softieshan, is a DJ, event producer, and equity and inclusion consultant. Born and raised on the stolen, ancestral lands of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, Shanique works passionately to carve out safer community spaces for marginalized folks to connect, create, and celebrate. Shanique has facilitated educational DJ workshop series with Intersessions, a grassroots organization aiming to bridge the inequality gap facing women and LGBTQ+ folks in the music and nightlife industries. She is the founder of LEVEL UP, Vancouver’s only QTBIPOC-centred hip hop dance party and has been DJing for crowds throughout Vancouver since 2017.
